Holiday Park Tree Management: Making the Most of the Closed Season
2026-08-26 · Heartwood Tree Management
A holiday park's trees are part of the product: shade, shelter, the reason the pitches feel like somewhere worth staying. They're also a year-round safety duty with a very narrow working window: the closed season. Get the winter programme right and the trading season runs itself; get it wrong and you're closing pitches in August with a chipper running next to someone's holiday.
The closed-season programme
- Autumn inspection: a competent check of the whole stock while issues from the summer are fresh, deadwood over pitches, storm-damaged limbs, root heave near hardstandings.
- Prioritised works schedule: safety works first, then amenity pruning, then longer-term thinning and replanting, priced as one mobilisation, not five call-outs.
- Winter delivery: teams and machinery on site while the park is empty. No guest disruption, no access battles with awnings and cars, ground protection where lawns matter.
- Storm response through the season: a named emergency line for the months you're trading, with response times in the contract.
Why parks buy this as a term contract
The economics are simple: planned winter work on a multi-year contract costs meaningfully less per tree than reactive summer work, and the paperwork, inspection records, RAMS, waste notes, arrives as a package your insurers and inspectors actually want to see. We already run this model across multiple Purbeck parks.
