Heathwood Tree Management provides specialist heathland restoration and management services for landowners, developers, local authorities and conservation bodies across the UK. We restore and manage lowland and upland heathland habitats, supporting biodiversity recovery, landscape resilience and long-term regulatory compliance.
Our work is delivered in line with Natural England guidance, SSSI management objectives and Environmental Land Management (ELM) principles, ensuring every project achieves measurable ecological value alongside practical land-use outcomes.
Heathland restoration focuses on the recovery and long-term management of heather-dominated habitats, which are among the UK’s most rare and protected ecosystems. These landscapes support priority species including nightjar, Dartford warbler, reptiles, pollinators and rare invertebrates.
Without active intervention, heathland rapidly degrades through scrub encroachment, nutrient enrichment and inappropriate land use. Our role is to reverse this process and restore sites to a favourable conservation condition.
We deliver end-to-end heathland restoration projects, including:
Scrub and invasive species removal
Heather regeneration and re-seeding
Bracken control and management
Tree and woodland edge reduction
Soil and nutrient management
Controlled mowing and cutting regimes
Long-term habitat management planning
All works are carefully programmed to protect ground-nesting birds, reptiles and sensitive flora, with methods and timings tailored to each site.
We regularly support planning-led heathland restoration and mitigation, including:
SANG creation and enhancement
Mitigation land for residential and mixed-use developments
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) delivery
Natural England mitigation strategies
Local authority and council-led projects
Our team understands the requirements of planning conditions, Section 106 agreements and ecological method statements, ensuring projects progress efficiently from approval through to delivery.
Heathwood Tree Management has experience delivering works in line with the requirements of:
Natural England
Local planning authorities
Ecological consultants
Wildlife trusts and conservation partnerships
All works are undertaken in compliance with protected species legislation, SSSI requirements and current best-practice guidance.
